Llewellyn Leslie Dadswell's story
Llewellyn Leslie Dadswell was the first of two sons born to Charles Edward and Florence (Hayes) Dadswell. He was born at Richmond in 1893.
Electoral records list him as an accountant living at Oak Road, Glen Iris, in 1914. Llewellyn joined the Australian Army on 24 January 1916 at the age of 23 and served in France, making the rank of sergeant before being repatriated home with chest, thigh and knee wounds. In 1919 he was again shown as living at Glen Iris and working as an accountant.
In 1931 and 1936 electoral rolls, he is shown as a farmer living on Walhalla Road, Toongabbie, in Gippsland.
He died at Mentone, Victoria, on 20 July 1953, at the age of 60. At that time he was listed as living at his parent's Toorak address (both parents had died, as had his younger brother David). His death certificate stated he did not marry.
As neither he nor his brother appeared to have had children, the Dadswell name died out for this branch of the family.
