William James Dadswell's story
William James Dadswell was the second child and first son of Charles and Ann (Card) Dadswell. He was born on 1 September 1858 at Jervis Brook, Sussex, and baptised at Rotherfield on 28 September 1858.
On 25 July 1880, at the age of 21, he married Catherine (Kate) Simmonds at St John's Church, Brighton. He and Kate had 10 children, including Llewellyn who migrated to Australia and Roderick and Septimust, pictured at right with their mother.
William became a letter carrier (postman) with the British Post Office in 1878 and by the time of his retirement in 1918 he was superintendent of postmen at Brighton.
He died at Brighton on 22 January 1945.
